Endless Recreation in North Central PA
Williamsport, Lycoming County, and North Central Pennsylvania is full of outdoor recreation opportunities. From hiking and trail running, mountain biking and snowmobiling on the nearly endless state park trails to kayaking, skiing, diving and more. Hunting, fly fishing and other activities are exceptional.
Susquehanna State Park - This 20-acre riverfront recreational area is in the city of Williamsport. A boat launch provides access to the West Branch Susquehanna River and the 652-acre Hepburn Street Dam that is deep enough for water-skiing.
Loyalsock State Forest - Bear Wallow Pond and Sones Pond are mountain top ponds frequently visited by geese and ducks during migration. High Knob Overlook offers a spectacular vista of unusual range and beauty. Many visitors also come to High Knob each year in June, when the mountain laurel is in bloom. An excellent area for mountain biking, hiking, bird watching, horse back riding and other outdoor activities.
Tiadaghton State Forest - The Black Forest Trail is a 42 -mile hiking trail built by the Bureau of Forestry. It utilizes old railroad grades, logging trails and foot trails to traverse some of the most spectacular terrain in Pennsylvania.
The Pine Creek Trail is being developed by the Bureau of Forestry on the abandoned railroad grade that parallels Pine Creek. When completed, the trail will extend 62 miles form Jersey Shore in the Tiadaghton State Forest north to Wellsboro Junction in the Tioga State Forest. The trail will be used primarily for bicycling, cross country skiing and walking.
The Loyalsock Trail is a 59-mile hiking trail that begins along State Route 87 north of Montoursville and ends on U.S. Route 220 north of Laporte.

Lycoming Creek Bikeway - The bikeway follows Lycoming Creek and much of the former Penn Central Railroad corridor in Old Lycoming and Loyalsock Townships. It connects several parks and communities north of Williamsport with the 11-mile bikeway system in the Williamsport Urbanized area.
Loyalsock Trail - The Loyalsock Trail, a wilderness footpath, runs from PA 87, 10 miles north of Montoursville, to U.S. 220 at Ringdale, a distance of 59.3 miles. The trail parallels the creek, mostly following ridges, but at times passing mountain streams, waterfalls, lakes, and ponds.
Golden Eagle Trail - The Golden Eagle Trail is an 8.9 mile circuit trail Because of the rugged topography, locations for overnight camping along the trail are extremely limited.
